Hometown Heroine
MY STORY
A hometown hero is someone who makes their city proud. I do that for myself effortlessly. I am the city, the country and the oceanside. I have carefully cultivated a concept of community. I curate spaces where the tribe can feel valued. I surround myself and my time with people who are genuine, they’re usually creatives. I know that despite where I am, my city resides within me and it drives me throughout this journey. I know that when I leave this place, I’ll be a legend because I was born to be eternal. Much love to all the hometown heroes.
I have been scribbling since I was able to grasp a chicken nugget. I grew into an interviewer in the second grade. My very first interview was my great grandmother Lessie Wady. She told me all about her tribe and the land. She told me who I was and where we all came from. That was the first time that I remember feeling proud of myself.
“I am the city, the country, and the oceanside.”
Butter for your brains:
In what ways do you find yourself heroic? When did you decide that your city was proud of you, and what do they have to be proud of?

I’ve always known who I was and who I wanted to become. In my twenties, I spent a lot of time rediscovering what I liked as a child. Somewhere along the way, I met the teenage version of myself. A funny girl with pain behind her eyes, laughs to fill her lungs, and a voice that wasn’t heard by her own ears. In my thirties, I’m listening. Listening to each version of that girl and watching her grow before my very own eyes. I’m someone that she not only trusts, but enjoys being around.
I’ve arrived.
